Trauma-Focused Support for PTSD

Living with the effects of trauma can influence how you feel, respond to stress, connect with others, and move through everyday life. You may know which experience continues to affect you, or you may be trying to understand reactions that feel difficult to control or explain.

At Nova Lotus Wellness, I provide PTSD therapy for adults using an individualized, trauma-focused approach. I offer in-person therapy at my Peoria office and telehealth counseling throughout Illinois.

You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. We can start by understanding what you are experiencing and what you hope to address through therapy.

— Understanding Symptoms

How PTSD Can Affect Daily Life

Post-traumatic stress disorder can develop after experiencing or witnessing traumatic events. How PTSD affects daily life can vary from person to person.

Some people experience distressing memories, nightmares, avoidance, changes in mood, or feeling constantly alert to potential danger. Trauma can also affect relationships, concentration, sleep, emotional responses, and a person's sense of safety.

Therapy provides a place to understand these experiences and begin working toward your individual treatment goals without assuming that everyone with PTSD needs the same approach.

— Personalized Care

My Approach to PTSD Therapy

I begin by learning about your concerns, relevant experiences, strengths, and goals. From there, we develop a treatment plan based on what you are experiencing now and what you want to work toward.

Therapy may involve understanding trauma responses, recognizing patterns, developing strategies for managing distress, or processing traumatic experiences when you are ready.

I do not believe trauma therapy should be rushed. My role is to provide clinical guidance and a supportive environment while keeping you involved in decisions about your care.

— Specialized Modalities

EMDR Therapy for PTSD

EMDR may be incorporated into PTSD treatment when it aligns with your needs and treatment plan. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a structured psychotherapy approach used to address traumatic and distressing experiences.

I am an EMDR-trained trauma therapist with EMDR basic training and additional training in EMDR Intensive Therapy. When EMDR is part of treatment, we begin with assessment and preparation before moving into trauma-processing phases.
