Focused Time for Trauma Therapy
EMDR Intensive Therapy offers a concentrated approach to EMDR treatment, providing more dedicated therapeutic time than a traditional weekly session.
At Nova Lotus Wellness, I provide EMDR Intensive Therapy for adults who want focused time to address traumatic experiences, distressing memories, or specific treatment goals. Before beginning, we discuss what brings you to therapy, what you want to work on, and whether an intensive format fits your current needs.
I offer EMDR therapy in Peoria, with telehealth options available throughout Illinois when appropriate.
— The Framework
What Is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, commonly called EMDR, is a structured psychotherapy approach used to address traumatic and distressing experiences.
EMDR includes several phases of treatment. Before trauma processing begins, I take time to understand your history, identify treatment goals, prepare for the work, and discuss strategies that can support you throughout the process.
During appropriate phases of EMDR, bilateral stimulation is used while working with identified memories or experiences. The process follows a structured framework while allowing treatment to be adapted to your needs.
You do not have to address everything at once. We establish a treatment focus together based on what you want to work on.
— A Concentrated Format
How Is an EMDR Intensive Different?
Traditional psychotherapy often takes place in shorter, regularly scheduled sessions. An EMDR intensive uses a longer block of therapeutic time, allowing for greater continuity while working on a defined treatment focus.
More time does not automatically mean better treatment. An intensive is simply a different way of structuring EMDR therapy and is not the right format for everyone.
You may consider an intensive if you have a specific experience or treatment goal you want to focus on, prefer dedicated therapeutic time, or find weekly scheduling difficult. I consider your concerns, relevant history, and treatment goals before moving forward with this format.
— The Process
What to Expect from an EMDR Intensive
Although every treatment plan is individualized, an EMDR intensive generally includes several important stages.
Assessment & Preparation
We begin by discussing your concerns, relevant history, and what you hope to address. I explain the EMDR process, answer questions, and discuss strategies that can support you during treatment.
Focused EMDR Work
Once preparation is complete, we can work with identified treatment targets using the EMDR framework. The length and structure of the intensive are based on the treatment plan we develop together.
Follow-Up
An intensive does not necessarily mark the end of therapy. Follow-up gives us an opportunity to review your experience and discuss whether additional therapeutic work may be helpful.

EMDR Intensive Therapy FAQs
Do I need weekly therapy before an EMDR intensive?
Not necessarily. We can discuss your history, current concerns, and goals to determine whether an intensive or another therapy format makes sense for you.
How long is an EMDR intensive?
Length and structure vary based on the treatment plan. I will explain the proposed format, scheduling, and what to expect before your intensive is booked.
Is EMDR Intensive Therapy only for PTSD?
No. EMDR may be used when working with different traumatic or distressing experiences. We can discuss whether it aligns with your concerns and treatment goals.
Will one intensive resolve my trauma?
There is no specific number of sessions that guarantees a particular outcome. Trauma experiences and treatment needs vary, and additional therapy or follow-up may be recommended.
