At Nova Lotus Wellness, honoring veterans means finding meaningful ways to give back. In 2026, I am offering free EMDR therapy for veterans in Peoria, IL, through the Nominate a Hero program.

Each quarter, one veteran will be selected to receive 12 free Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy sessions. As a retired U.S. Army veteran and trauma therapist, I created this initiative to recognize those who have served our country while making trauma-focused care more accessible.

About the Program

Military service can affect life long after leaving the armed forces. Some veterans experience trauma-related difficulties, while others face challenges involving relationships, stress, or civilian life.

Every veteran's experience is different. This program offers an opportunity for individualized EMDR treatment without requiring nominators to share private mental health histories.

Your nomination should focus on the veteran's character, contributions, and why you believe they should be considered.

What the Veteran Receives

Each selected veteran will be offered 12 EMDR therapy sessions at no cost. EMDR is a structured psychotherapy approach used by trained professionals to address traumatic and distressing experiences. Treatment includes assessment, preparation, and planned therapeutic work.

EMDR may help reduce trauma-related distress, although outcomes vary. Before treatment begins, I will assess whether EMDR is appropriate for the selected veteran's needs.

Nova Lotus Wellness offers in-person psychotherapy in Peoria and telehealth throughout Illinois. Location and suitability for treatment will be considered before services begin.

  • How many veterans will be selected in 2026?

    One veteran is planned to be selected each quarter, for up to four veterans during 2026.

  • Does the veteran need a PTSD diagnosis?

    A PTSD diagnosis is not stated as a nomination requirement. I will assess whether EMDR is clinically appropriate before treatment begins.

  • Are all 12 EMDR sessions free?

    Yes. Each selected veteran will be offered 12 EMDR therapy sessions at no cost.

  • Can I nominate a veteran outside Peoria?

    In-person therapy is available in Peoria, with telehealth throughout Illinois. Location and eligibility will be reviewed before treatment.

  • How will I know if the veteran is selected?

    The selected veteran will be contacted directly. Nominators who requested follow-up may be contacted if the veteran does not respond.
